Ash Wednesday on SpanishTown Road

Jewelled skeletons dance

Swaying

cool February morning

The scent of rum and redemption

Warming

Warming ground
first weeds of the season
popping in the lawn

again
leaves opening
out from the mystery

why do they do that?

in the graveyards
the carrion crows
pull the pansies from their beds

feeding time at the park

several sheep
at the manger
surround the goat

the black goat
with his forward feet
in the trough

Lent Begins

yesterday's treasures
today's useless trinkets
Mardi Gras throws

concrete pillow
sleeping teenager
at the park

last year's palms
burned to ashes
mortality reminder

warm winter morning-
pansies dancing in the breeze

Looking through the old school windows (on sunny days in winter)

the birches
swaying
and brightly glowing

Winter?

sleeveless linen shirt
on my back
sticking

cold bathroom floor
toes feel
refreshed

Cracking

Early commute
wiping the excess dew
from the windshield

Comfort Food...

after long hard week
making chicken and biscuits
just for me

warm spell —
we scramble to find
our bike helmets

our bamboo thicketis now my son's space —
I may not enter
