Cat in the Hat-
the switching on of Christmas lights
in the pouring rain

The local children at the library have a Cat in the Hat happy hour just before the Christmas lights get switched on:
Bradford on Avon (U.K.) at Christmas

.

full moon -
honesty rattles
in the breeze

weekend's comin'
red and silver bells
waiting to be hung

New Snow

new-fallen snow
your footsteps
change direction

cherry tree's last leaves -
in their orange light
the robin disappears

crisp morning
seeing my speech
as I chat with friends

Winter's cold message

Sometimes Winter is a cold message, a letter that chills the heart. That the message comes in Winter makes it all the more cold.

Phonecall - Beloved at ER.
Going home to hospice care.
Pain management now.

State of mind unknown.
Not set, not ready to go
No talking about.

Son in denial
Acting normal as can be
Father is stoic

Mother soldiers on
Wife pure, attention focused
Solely on Beloved.

Departure midmorn
It is cold. The ice is black.
Overnight in Medford

Chains may be needed
The coast the preferred route
For unkind winter.

Coming up

This season for fairy lights
Christmas tree on the loose – again.
Fresh stacked Normann fir
foliage in bundles
I only miss snowflakes – so far

cold -
the cornet crackles
the clarinettist
blows on his fingers

watching my breath
tumble in the wind-
dancing dead leaves

evening commute
frosted moon sits in tree top

sunrise
the clank of radiators
in an old building

chilly morning
stopping for favorite sweater
and mug of cocoa

scars

this too, existence--
wintry sun and chilly night
crouching on footpath

her face grows
more wrinkles

in falling snow
a fawn browses alone -
autumn dusk

cat on radio
changing my station
frost on the roofs

Bronchial breathing--
the only sound audible
in the soulless space

DECEMBER MORNING

December morning--
the first roses in the lawn:
fragrance in passing

cool morning
frosted red passion flower
droops on the vine

warm basement
in the old coal bin
barn cats sleep

Winter Heart

Sensation in heart
So desirous, pain squeezes
A moment, freezing time .

Choking sensation
Releases emotional
Reply to spirit.

In the quiet of
A frozen moment, answers
Salute saying "act".

This Morning

this morning's shadows
are white with frost

how is it
that in your arms I find
no warmth?

sun in his coat
the mountain dog
warms my hand

It’s getting colder

when I was young

I wonder...
cold front brings wind

smoke curles above snapping flames
marshmallows roasting

Winter Clouds

winter clouds
in this only
I find some comfort...
heaven never saw me
lie to you

Snow Drifts

chilled and shivering,
wrapped in loneliness she waits...
snow drifts at her feet

her cold nose
when I kissed her -
first day of 'Winter Haiku'

Ice Leaf

Winter's icy breath
chokes lone leaf's struggle for a
last twist in the wind.
